I love coffee

Let me explain.

Hello there!

So glad you dropped by. My name is Jeremy Varner! I’m a native of Abilene, Texas and started my coffee journey at Chattahoochee Coffee Company in Atlanta, GA. They are an account of Counter Culture Coffee, and I received my formal coffee education at the hands of David Lamont (now of La Marzocco), Ben Helfen (Counter Culture Director of Education), and Matt Davis (Category Manager at Breville). I moved to New York City after five years in Atlanta. Originally I moved to continue my career in musical theater (which I still love and do on occasion), but found that the coffee industry had a bit more job security. After a few years of working at the coffee shop Little Collins in Manhattan, I started working for Spectrum Coffee Roasters based in Brooklyn. I took over as the Director of Education and Training, and also act as a wholesale account representative to many of our accounts here in the city. Along with those responsibilities, I host and organize latte art throwdowns in the NYC area, which many of the world’s finest art latte champions attend.I have over ten years of experience in the coffee industry behind the bar at shops that have received national attention and recognition. Now, on the roasting/education side of the business, I work with and train baristas all over New York City. Working for a roaster has only deepened my knowledge of the coffee industry, from the sourcing of beans and the farms they come from, to the actual roasting process, and the roasting profiles needed to bring out the fullest flavor of each bean. This knowledge has only added to my existing skill set as a highly trained barista/trainer. Not only do I know how to make a perfectly dialed-in espresso shot, or a clean cup of Chemex brewed coffee, I also have experience on the other side of the bean. I understand every component of the process of coffee making, from the moment the coffee tree is planted to the final pour.

This is what I look like these days.
